In Paris, a young employee in the office of the US Ambassador hooks up with an American spy looking to stop a terrorist attack in the city. James Reece is an ambitious aide to the U.S. Ambassador in Paris, doing little jobs for the CIA and hoping to get into black ops. On the night he and his girlfriend, Caroline, become engaged, he's told to pick up Charlie Wax at Orly. Charlie is an unorthodox government employee - large, bald and bearded, foul-mouthed and eccentric. Charlie immediately takes James on a wild ride of murder and mayhem, through ethnic enclaves. As bodies pile up, the purpose remains opaque to James. Caroline, unhappy that James has been out of touch for a day, tells him to bring Charlie for dinner. Charlie can be charming - where will it lead? Does the chess-playing James have what it takes? This movie is so much fun to watch! It's simply John Travolta beating the crap out of this terrorists all while acting extremely over the top. There were so many scenes where I couldn't help but yell "WOAh!" It's a movie worth watching at least once. Especially if you love action movies that simply focus on the action itself (Like me!) While that may be it's biggest strength, it's also it's biggest flaw, since in the end you don't really care for any of the characters (except maybe John himself since he is sooooo frickin awesome in this film). It's story is simplistic, so don't expect any REAL big twists. The only twist in this is kind of predictable, and it could have been emotional….but there isn't any of that character development that I mentioned earlier. Overall…..it's a great film to watch when your bored….give it a shot :) This film is quality. It may not be taking cinema seriously but its just a fun film with lots of action, explosions, and great lines, however the film would seem rather bland if it were not for the comical element brought by john travolta. His character makes you want to keep watching and watching as he unveils new unexpected sectors of his persona. I absolutely love it when he is singing me and Mrs Jones…in reference to his favourite gun….also when he is singing along to a rather soppy song and then he flicks back and tells the driver he is to not tell anyone…hilarious moment in the film.<br/><br/>I recommend you watch it….john travoltas character makes it one you will thank yourself for watching…john Rhys Meyers character does seem slightly bland however that may just be because i am not a fan of his acting or voice. I hasten to say this is not criticism of John Travolta. He succeeds in this movie by essentially acting in a movie of his own.
